Pathways to Success
Helping every student find their place and their pathway
English (Literacy)
The Australian Curriculum Version 9 is used to design Literacy programs tailored to each student in the class. Student assessments help inform the creation of individualised programs that align with their SMARTAR goals outlined in their One Plan.
The English program also focuses on teaching students about informational texts (such as signs) and procedural texts (like reading and following recipes), which support the development of skills for life after school.
Students are encouraged to visit the library during their English lessons, where they participate in the Premier’s Reading Challenge.
This activity has proven to be enjoyable for students, and they are recognised for their participation with a certificate or medal at the end of each year.
Mathematics (Numeracy)
At Salisbury High School, all students engage in mathematics from Year 7 to Year 12. We emphasise teaching functional life skills to support students in their post-school pathways, alongside a strong focus on number and problem-solving skills. Our curriculum aligns with Version 9 of the Australian Curriculum, and senior students follow a modified SACE program.
Benefits of studying mathematics:
-
- Develops logical reasoning and analytical thinking.
- Enhances critical and creative thinking
- Builds financial literacy.
- Increases employment opportunities.
In our classrooms, educators create supportive environments and promote growth mindsets. We focus on explicitly teaching key concepts, such as Number and Place Value, to foster student development.
