Students are guided through the design process in a safe workshop environment where their individual progress and development is encouraged. The areas of learning available to students include:

  • Woodwork
  • Metalwork
  • Doorways 2 Construction
  • Jewellery Making
  • Design, Technology & Engineering.
  • Industry Connections

Pathways

Design and Technology subjects at Senior School may assist students to gain employment in the construction industry or to undertake future studies at TAFE or University.

Programs

Design Technology programs in Years 7 to 10 are based on the Australian Curriculum and encompasses philosophies of holistic learning, intercultural learning and communicating in a technological environment.

Students in Senior School gain accreditation towards their SACE certificate as well as VET qualifications if undertaking a Vocational Pathway (Doorways 2 Construction).

Senior students select an area of learning that may relate to their future pathway. Within their chosen subject, they will be given a construction task and use the design process to construct a major project which satisfies the design brief.

DOORWAYS 2 CONSTRUCTION
Certificate II in Construction Pathways
ADVANCED CARPENTRY SAFETY SKILLS
(Stackable) - Partial Certificate III in Carpentry

The Doorways 2 Construction program runs 1 day a week for a full year. Digital Technology

Digital Technology is an exciting and diverse subject encompassing robotics, 3D printing, codeing, animation, graphics, game development, web-design, film, photography, broadcasting and publishing. Students participate in a broad range of practical and theory based units which encourage them to explore and analyse issues, trends and development within the world of digital technology, whilst stretching and challenging their own ideas of what is possible.

Students have the opportunity to produce a wide range of digital technology products including 2D printed designs, 3D models, interactive content for the web, videos and digital animations. Photography starting at Year 10, provides students with opportunities to explore visual communication in a creative way.

The focus in Digital Technology in junior and middle school is the Design Cycle, a process integral to creative industries. Students learn to use the “tools of the trade” within this process to generate creative solutions to realistic problems, much the same as if they were already working within the Digital Technology industry. In addition, students learn how people and technology are inter-related, how to make sure they use technology safely and securely, and the ethical responsibilities we have as digital citizens.

Internet Safety Education

Salisbury High School delivers a computer-based Internet safety program to all multimedia students equips students with the knowledge and skills to allow them to make informed decisions about their use of technology, minimise risks of internet and mobile technology misuse, provide an understanding of the implications of cyber-bullying and harassment, and give them the ability to use new and emerging technologies with confidence and in a safe manner.

Pathways

Design and Technology subjects at Senior School may assist students to gain employment in the construction industry or to undertake future studies at TAFE or University.

Food Technology

Through Food Technology students progressively develop knowledge and understanding about the nature of food and food safety, and how to make informed and appropriate food preparation choices when experimenting with and preparing food in a sustainable manner.

In Food and Hospitality, students focus on the dynamic nature of the food and hospitality industry and develop an understanding of contemporary approaches and issues related to food and hospitality. Students develop skills in using technology and safe work practices in the preparation, storage, and handling of food.

Child Studies focuses on children and their development from conception to 8 years. Students have the opportunity to develop knowledge and understanding of young children through individual, collaborative, and practical learning. They explore concepts such as the development, needs, and rights of children, the value of play, concepts of childhood and families, and the roles of parents and care-givers
