Health and Physical Education at Salisbury High School

Why HPE Matters

At Salisbury High School, Health and Physical Education (HPE) is about more than sport. It is about building the knowledge, confidence and skills students need to thrive in everyday life, now and into the future. Aligned with the South Australian Curriculum, our HPE program supports students to develop a strong sense of self, build positive relationships, and make informed decisions about their health and wellbeing. Students grow in confidence through movement and physical activity, while also learning to think critically about the world around them.

Through their learning, students are encouraged to be resourceful, resilient, respectful and responsible as they navigate challenges, relationships and decision making. They build the skills to take ownership of their wellbeing, support others, and respond positively in real-world situations.

Whether managing stress, working in a team, staying active, or making healthy choices, HPE helps students develop habits and mindsets that support them well beyond school. Learning connects directly to life beyond the classroom, with students developing teamwork, communication and leadership skills, alongside the confidence to face challenges and try new things.

HPE, and the elements of essential learning, work together to support holistic learning, enabling learners to navigate health, wellbeing and movement contexts with confidence.
